On October 25 at 9:35 p.m., air traffic at Vilnius Airport was temporarily suspended. According to preliminary information, the decision to introduce airspace restrictions was possibly caused by meteorological balloons flying in the direction of Vilnius Airport. The airspace over Vilnius Airport was reopened at 3:30 a.m.
Due to these temporary restrictions, both arriving and departing flights were affected, with some cancellations.
In total, around 3,500 passengers and 25 flights were affected, including 4 cancellations, 7 diversions, and 14 other impacted flights.
Throughout the day, minor delays may occur due to disrupted aircraft and crew rotations.
Passengers whose flights were cancelled are advised not to come to the airport and to contact their airlines directly for alternative travel options and further information. Airlines are required to provide passengers with all necessary details regarding next steps and available flight alternatives.
