Lithuanian airports serve thousands of passengers and dozens of flights every day. Due to public interest, airport activities often attract media attention, so the activities of journalists and communication specialists are regulated. In order to ensure safety, order, and transparency of operations, media representatives must comply with the established rules for registration and work at the airport.
Registration form
Registration process

Media representatives wishing to work at Vilnius Airport—filming, taking photographs, or conducting interviews—must register in advance. This helps the airport administration ensure compliance with security requirements and coordinate activities with other airport departments.

Registration process:

  • Submit your inquiry by filling out the registration form.
  • The registration form must be completed at least 24 hours prior to arrival at LTOU to film/photograph/collect information by other means.

The application shall specify:

  • name of the media outlet;
  • date and time of planned activity;
  • purpose of work (e.g., report, interview, live broadcast);
  • list of participants;
  • desired filming locations;
  • contact details of the person in charge (first name, last name, telephone number, and email address).

Upon a media representative submitting a request to film or photograph in non-restricted (non-sterile) areas, the registration is recorded, and relevant staff are informed of the scheduled time and location. A separate notification is sent only if the registration is inaccurate or unrelated to public information purposes.

For filming or photography in restricted (sterile) airport zones, a temporary permit is required. When applying, it is mandatory to provide the personal data necessary for the issuance of the permit.

Issuance of permits

A temporary permit to access and film within the restricted zone is issued by the Permits Office. This process is coordinated with the security service, operations center, and other departments. The process is initiated by an LTOU Communications Department representative following a formal media inquiry, the provision of required information, and the completion of a registration form.

Temporary permits are issued a limited number of times per year and only when access to the restricted zone is strictly necessary. Once a permit is issued, the media representative must be accompanied at all times within the restricted zone by the person who initiated the permit request. Access to restricted areas is not permitted without an escort holding a permanent airport pass.

Work rules and safety requirements

When working in the airport area, media representatives must comply with all aviation safety and internal regulations:

    • stay on designated routes and in designated areas;

    • do not approach aircraft without an escort;

    • not to film security check areas, documents, or equipment;

    • to wear a visible media identification card;

    • to follow the instructions of airport staff.

    • journalists must be accompanied by an airport representative if their work takes place in restricted access areas.

The role of the communications department

The Communications Department of Lithuanian Airports is responsible for coordinating media representatives, providing information, and organizing public relations. The department provides official comments, helps organize press conferences, and ensures that media activities run smoothly and do not interfere with airport operations and passenger traffic. Additional information

The work of the media at Lithuanian airports is important in informing the public about the activities of the aviation sector, travel safety, and infrastructure development. At the same time, a strict registration and permit system is necessary to ensure safety and orderly operations. Cooperation between journalists and airport administration allows for the effective balancing of the public’s right to information with aviation safety requirements.
