Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) welcome the final and unappealable favourable decision of the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania, confirming that Vilnius Airport\u00a0lawfully changed its charges\u00a0in 2023.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The decision of the Court of Appeal rejecting the complaints of the airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air confirms that Lithuanian Airports properly applied the legal acts regulating the setting of\u00a0airport\u00a0charges and\u00a0complied with\u00a0all the procedural rules\u00a0established\u00a0in the legal acts when setting\u00a0airport\u00a0charges. The decision to change the\u00a0charges\u00a0from January\u00a01,\u00a02023,\u00a0was dictated by the significant increase in\u00a0operational\u00a0costs in various areas over the preceding\u00a0years. Furthermore, the\u00a0aforementioned\u00a0airport\u00a0charges\u00a0at the capital’s airport\u00a0had\u00a0not been changed since 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The essential components of airport pricing are the use of the common infrastructure for the handling of\u00a0departing\u00a0or arriving passengers,\u00a0aircraft\u00a0landing,\u00a0aircraft\u00a0parking, special needs passenger service and the provision of certain specific services. Aviation pricing, which can be reviewed annually, is regulated \u2013 its model at European Union airports is regulated by the European Commission and must be based on costs and investments, therefore charges\u00a0are calculated according to the prescribed formulas and principles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From 2023 to 2025, the number of passengers at Vilnius Airport increased by 16% and the number of flights increased by 9%. Despite\u00a0(and during)\u00a0the legal dispute, the number of passengers carried by both Ryanair and Wizz Air at Vilnius Airport also increased significantly\u00a0–\u00a0by 10% and 19%, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vilnius Airport’s\u00a0charges\u00a0remain\u00a0unchanged\u00a0from 2023\u00a0to this day, ensuring the airport’s competitiveness in the region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

By its decision\u00a0issued on March 27, 2024,\u00a0the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court rejected the complaint of the applicants.\u00a0After the rejection, the applicants appealed the court decision to the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania, which\u00a0finally and irrevocably rejected the complaint of the applicants\u00a0on April 4, 2026.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
