{"id":5275,"date":"2020-09-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-27T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ltou.lt\/nib-finances-infrastructure-investments-at-lithuanian-airports\/"},"modified":"2020-09-28T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-27T22:00:00","slug":"nib-finances-infrastructure-investments-at-lithuanian-airports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ltou.lt\/en\/nib-finances-infrastructure-investments-at-lithuanian-airports\/","title":{"rendered":"NIB finances infrastructure investments at Lithuanian Airports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Nordic Investment (NIB) and State Enterprise Lithuanian Airports have signed a EUR 70 million loan agreement for infrastructure upgrades at Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 15-year maturity loan will finance the company\u2019s investments in service quality improvements, better operational efficiency and higher safety of operations at three main Lithuanian airports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe infrastructure renewal will allow Lithuanian airports to adapt to the expected growth of passenger traffic in the future, once the COVID-19 pandemic is under control,\u201d says Henrik Normann, NIB President &#038; CEO.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The projects include renovating the existing terminals in Kaunas and Vilnius as well as building a new departure terminal at Vilnius airport. After the implementation, Vilnius airport\u2019s capacity is expected to increase from the current 3.5 million to an estimated 7.8 million passengers per year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moreover, the investments will be used for renewing airfield infrastructure in all three airports, and reconstructing the runway in Palanga.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAll investments in the Lithuanian airports network infrastructure improvements are planned to be paid off within a period of 10\u201315 years. The renewal and development of the existing infrastructure is in line with one of the two cornerstones of our business strategy: the development of the existing network and preparation for the future, with the possibility of a new airport,\u201d says Marius Gel\u017einis, Head of Lithuanian Airports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">State Enterprise Lithuanian Airports operates the country\u2019s three largest airports of Vilnius (VNO), Kaunas (KUN) and Palanga (PLQ). In 2019, Lithuanian Airports served 6.5 million passengers: 5 million in Vilnius, 1.2 million in Kaunas and 0.3 million in Palanga.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>NIB is an international financial institution owned by eight member countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden. The Bank finances private and public projects in and outside the member countries.
