    Lithuanian Airports, AB implemented project No. 06.1.1-TID-V-506-01-0004 \u201cNorthern apron reconstruction and expansion (increase of existing apron\u2019s capacity by a total of 8 aircraft parking stands)\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The aim of the project was to improve flight safety and reduce negative environmental impact at Vilnius Airport. The project involved the reconstruction of the northern apron and the installation of 8 aircraft parking stands next to the runway in order to reduce the distance aircraft have to travel to their parking positions and the duration of aircraft manoeuvring as well as noise and air pollution at Vilnius International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Safety of aircraft manoeuvrability ensured: the addition of parking stands closer to the runway means a reduction in the number of manoeuvres required for an aircraft coming from the runway to reach its parking location on the apron, with a reduction in the time aircraft need to taxi for take-off and landing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

            The project involved the construction of a new taxiway Z, including installing the new taxiway, surface drainage systems, drains, and a signal and axle lighting system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n


            Anticipated benefits of building the new taxiway Z:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

            • Safety of aircraft manoeuvring ensured: the existence of the new taxiway F reduces the aircraft taxi time from the northern apron to the start of the runway and vice versa. Aircraft that use taxiway A must taxi an additional distance to the start of the runway and, on reaching it, perform a U-turn. This project will reduce the number of complex manoeuvres an aircraft must perform. Aircraft will not need to taxi as long for take-off and landing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Reduced air and noise pollution due to shorter aircraft taxi time to parking stands: less aircraft engine noise, fuel consumption and emissions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

              The project was completed in late 2021: new taxiway Z was built, including installing surface drainage systems, drains, and a signal and axle lighting system, at the address Rod\u016bnios Road 2, Vilnius.<\/p>\n


              With the new taxiway Z was in place, aircraft taxi time from the (newly built) northern apron to the start of the runway and vice versa decreased, and on reaching the runway it is no longer necessary to perform a complex U-turn. The project has reduced the number of complex manoeuvres aircraft must perform and reduced the time that aircraft taxi for take-off and landing by 103 seconds. Because of the reduced time that aircraft taxi, aircraft engines make noise for less time and both fuel consumption and emissions are reduced.<\/p>\n

                The project involved reconstructing the existing taxiways A and B to reduce how long aircraft manoeuvre along with noise and air pollution at Vilnius International Airport.

                Anticipated benefits of demolishing taxiway A and reconstructing taxiway B:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

                • Safety of aircraft manoeuvring ensured: reconstruction of taxiway B means a reduction in the number of manoeuvres required by an aircraft to move from the runway to its parking location on the apron, with a reduction in the time aircraft need to taxi for take-off and landing; it replaces taxiing on the apron, where the permitted speed is less than on the reconstructed taxiway.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • Reduced air and noise pollution due to shorter aircraft taxi time: aircraft engines will make noise for less time and there will be less fuel consumption and less emissions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

The project involved equipping aircraft de-icing\/anti-icing areas with the necessary infrastructure as well as a wastewater treatment facility with the needed supporting infrastructure in order to ensure operational safety and reduce environmental impact at Vilnius International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
